Biama Vineyard

Estate-grown grapes at 3,200 ft elevation in the Sierra Foothills of Apple Hill — one of the highest vineyards in El Dorado County.

The Land

At 3,200 ft elevation and just a few steps outside of our tasting room in Apple Hill, Biama Vineyards is one of the highest elevation vineyards in the Sierra Foothills, with grape harvest occurring in late October. Snow often blankets the vineyard during the winter months. The soils of the steep vineyard hillsides were formed from volcanic parent material, resulting in a high natural soil fertility.

Six varieties grow on these hillsides. Zinfandel, Merlot, and Cab Franc become Morton Family Cellars wine, and the vineyard also grows Lagrein, Nebbiolo, and Picpoul. Rich Biama takes care to maintain the grapes according to organic practices overseen by our winemaking team, Greg and Kyle Morton, and the fruit becomes natural wine in our Camino cellar. There is no mechanization of the vineyard — all vine pruning and grape harvesting is done by hand to ensure the highest quality of fruit and wine. Explore our full lineup on the wines page.

On Sunday, November 15, 2026, the vineyard doubles as a race venue: the Apple Hill Half Marathon & 5K starts and finishes right here at Biama Vineyards before heading out through the Apple Hill orchards.
